Apple M3 chip to be based on 3nm process

According to the Taiwanese edition of DigiTimes, TSMC has already launched a test production of 3-nm chips. Now the chipmaker is testing the technology. Mass production should start towards the end of 2022. At the same time, the main customers of the company represented by Apple and Intel will not be able to receive ready-made chips until the first quarter of 2023.

As usual, the new process technology will improve the performance and energy efficiency of components without the need to increase the overall dimensions of the chips. It is expected that new processors for iPhone and Mac will noticeably overtake the solutions currently available in a number of ways.

The first Apple smartphones and computers with 3nm chips should appear in 2023. It is possible that one of the features of the M3 will be a significantly increased number of processing cores. Some sources claim that there can be up to 40 of them in top modifications of the chip. For comparison, M1 contain only 8 computing cores, while M1 Pro and M1 Max have 10 cores.

As for the M2 and Apple A16 chips, they must be made using the 4nm process technology. You can check it out in the spring. According to rumors, early next year, Apple will show an updated MacBook Air. He should get an M2 chip, as well as a new case with white frames around the screen.
