Analysts are confident that today Apple is actively working on foldable mobile devices. According to recent forecasts, the first flexible iPhone could be released in 2023-2024. However, for this the company still has to solve a number of problems. For example, create a special battery that will power such a device. One battery option for foldable iPhones is described in a new Apple patent.
In the past, iPhones and Macs have used complexly shaped batteries. Specifically, MacBook batteries included several small cells. All this was done in order to make full use of the limited space inside the device case. However, in the case of foldable gadgets, Apple wants to take a slightly different path.
The company’s new patent describes a battery that consists of three sections. The first and third segments should be located in the “hard” halves of the case, and the connecting part should be placed at the bend of the gadget. In this case, we are not talking about connecting loops.
Engineers propose to connect the two parts of the battery with a flexible jumper. She will also be able to accumulate a charge. At the same time, the thickness of the flexible center will be about a third less than the main battery blocks.
It is worth noting that this is not the first Apple patent related to foldable mobile devices. For the first time, such documents began to appear in the company’s patent portfolio about ten years ago. Initially, the patents described various hinge mechanisms, then methods for creating durable flexible screens, and not so long ago, Apple registered a number of documents describing batteries for folding iPhones.
