Aqara to get Matter support in 2022

Smart home technology is evolving and gaining momentum. Recently, a new Matter standard has been developed, which should go public sometime in 2022, after a delayed launch due to the pandemic. It has now become known that Aqara wants to add Matter support to some of their devices.

According to the manufacturer, starting in 2022, firmware updates will be released that will add Matter to compatible smart devices of the company. Aqara is part of the Matter Working Group, along with Apple, Philips Hue Signify, Amazon and Google. Aqara M1S and M2 hubs will be the first to receive the update.

If Aqara devices receive Matter, they will be able to work with several smart home systems at once: Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Aqara M1S and M2 hubs currently only support HomeKit.
