Gmail web design changes February 8th

For the first time, Google plans to change the appearance of the Gmail interface became known last year. True, for a long time it was not clear when exactly the company would begin to implement the update. The situation has cleared up a little recently. The exact dates have appeared on the official Google blog – users will be able to evaluate the new version of Gmail as early as next week.

A distinctive feature of the new design will be an additional column on the left side of the screen. It will contain Gmail, Chat and Meet icons. Thus, Google wants to make it easier to switch between different work services.

In addition, thanks to the new panel, users will be able to quickly learn about all the events that occur in different services – a special indicator will appear on the corresponding icon.


Users will be able to try out the new version of Gmail on February 8th. To do this, you just need to click on a special banner. At the same time, Google plans to make the transition as “soft” as possible. If users don’t like the new version, they can go back to the “classic” design. You can do this through the settings.

The new design will be automatically enabled in April, and in the second half of 2022, Google plans to completely abandon the “old” look of Gmail.
