IKEA unveils AirPlay 2 speaker lamp

In 2019, IKEA, together with the well-known American acoustic manufacturer Sonos, released a table lamp with a built-in wireless speaker called Symfonisk. The device sold well all this time. However, the companies decided that it was time to update the gadget. Today IKEA introduced a new version of Symfonisk. It stands out from its predecessor with a flexible design, improved sound and AirPlay 2 support.

IKEA has fundamentally changed the design of the lamp. The basic concept has been preserved – the lamp still consists of two parts. There is a lamp at the top and a speaker at the bottom. However, now users will be able to choose not only the color of the lamp, but also order different lampshades. The latter can be made of glass and fabric. Along with this, Ikea also changed the cartridge. The new version of Symfonisk is compatible with E26/E27 bulbs.

As for the sound, Sonos specialists were responsible for it. The updated Symfonisk, as before, works over Wi-Fi. At the same time, the speaker can work both in standalone mode and connect to other Sonos products. Separately, manufacturers pay attention to improved sound. The updated lamp received an improved waveguide. Thanks to this, music should be perfectly perceived from any angle.

The new version of Symfonisk will go on sale in mid-October. True, it will be possible to purchase a lamp only in the USA and some European countries. The price will start at $140. For this amount, users will be able to buy only the “base” without the lampshade. The latter will cost $29 and $39 depending on the material.
