In iOS 15, Apple will limit the functionality of Siri

In the final versions of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 Monterey and watchOS 8, Apple Voice Assistant functionality will be limited. In particular, Apple plans to prevent Siri from executing some commands related to third-party applications.

On the official Apple website in the developer section, it is indicated that some SiriKit commands will stop working in the fall. The company plans to ban 22 requests. So, for example, after the release of the final versions of new apple operating systems, users will not be able to call an Uber car using Siri. Also, restrictions will affect the integration of a voice assistant with applications for maintaining to-do lists and notes. Apple says that in the future, Apple device owners won’t be able to use Siri to create a new to-do list, delete an entry, or edit a note in Things 3 or Todoist. At the same time, the ability to create new tasks will remain.

The changes will also affect financial applications. Users will lose the ability to transfer money using Siri, search and pay bills in third-party programs. In addition, the apple voice assistant will no longer control some options in CarPlay. For example, users will no longer be able to adjust the climate.

Apple strongly encourages developers to update their apps and adjust their marketing materials so they don’t mislead users.

What exactly these changes are connected with is currently unknown. Some believe that in this way Apple wants to promote its Shortcuts application, with which owners of apple devices can simplify the performance of routine tasks. However, there are other points of view. For example, some talk about a crisis within the team responsible for Siri. True, this information has not been confirmed in any way.
