Apple has been releasing test builds of its operating systems for several years now. This is to test for updates before releasing public versions. The first such assemblies fall into the hands of authorized developers. Typically, Apple tests new versions of iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. However, now the firmware for AirPods Pro has also been added to this list.
We’ll show you how to install the update below. However, it’s best not to do this for now. If the installation fails, the headphones may stop working. If you decide to try out the test firmware, then you will perform all actions at your own peril and risk. After that, no one guarantees the performance of AirPods Pro.
According to reports, the update expands the capabilities of Apple’s wireless headphones, adding support for a number of features. First of all, we are talking about the suppression of ambient noise and spatial audio for calls in FaceTime.
Test firmware is available to authorized developers. To install it you need:
- On iPhone, go to the Apple website section for developers.
- Find and download a file “theiOSAirPodsProSeed.mobileconfig».
- Go to “Settings» — “Main» — “VPN and device management» (or Profiles).
- Click on the button “Install» and select iPhone.
- Reboot device.
After these manipulations, the firmware on AirPods Pro should be updated. It is important that the headphones remain connected to the iPhone during the background download. To install a test assembly, AirPods must be placed in a case.
Apple warns that once the firmware is installed, it cannot be rolled back. If you try to update your AirPods Pro in an unauthorized way, your headphones may stop working. To restore their performance, you will have to contact the service center.
