Recently, Apple Vice President of Industrial Design Evans Hankey and head of marketing for the company Stan Ng spoke with HYPEBEAST reporters. As part of the interview, they discussed Apple Watch bands and the challenges Apple faces in designing and manufacturing them.
In an interview, Evans Hankey noted that with each new model, the design team thinks about how to maintain the compatibility of new straps with previous generations of Apple Watch. Backward compatibility is the cornerstone of the product, but it also adds work to designers.
Another problem with the bands is that they “must support Apple Watch functionality.” This was told by the head of the marketing department of the company Stan Ng. According to him, the wrong design of the straps will affect the usability of the watch. For example, your Apple Watch may drop, and features such as heart rate tracking and blood oxygen levels may stop working properly.
